Outreach & Involvement Policy
What is the Office of Outreach & Involvement (OOI)?
The Office of Outreach and Involvement (OOI) dedicates itself to helping students launch themselves into the student association here at the University of Washington. From assisting entities with their outreach strategies and managing involvement, to the ASUW Ambassador Program, OOI works to ensure that the ASUW is a representative, wide-reaching organization that provides positive experiences to its students. None of the advocacy, rallies, concerts, or other events would be possible without interns and volunteers. Whether students are brand new to UW or are just looking to gain some work experience in an area of interest, the Office of Outreach and Involvement (OOI) is here to help them find their best fit on campus in the ASUW or beyond. We are a dynamic team dedicated to helping students make the most of their Husky experience.
Key takeaways
- OOI oversees volunteer opportunities & outreach for ASUW; OOI collaborates with employees on application review, strategic outreach planning, and volunteer & intern training; We are here to support both employees and volunteers, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Expanding Your Outreach
The Office of Outreach & Involvement is dedicated to a more inclusive and accessible ASUW through collaboration with entities on their outreach strategies and planning. This is made possible by coordination between entities and the OOI Director, to discuss what an entity’s goals are for the year, and how their target audience can help achieve these goals. By working with OOI to develop an outreach plan, entities will successfully engage students through virtual means, improve previous recruitment strategies & ultimately, expand their outreach.
Outreach planning is strongly recommended for Fall Quarter to ensure a solid start to the year. This planning is done through a series of meetings (2-3) to establish a proper, customized approach for your entity.
ASUW Ambassador Program
The ASUW Ambassador Program is a mentor-mentee program facilitated by the Office of Outreach and Involvement (OOI) with the help of ASUW employees. Similar to other brand ambassador programs, the Ambassador program is a cohort of students that want to learn more about the association and are enthusiastic about sharing these opportunities with others. The Ambassador cohort will interact with the ASUW and each other through job shadowing, weekly workshops, bonding activities, and a culminating leadership project. This year, we want to increase awareness of the ASUW and the opportunities it offers to students–the Ambassador program and your role in being a mentor during job shadowing is key in doing so! Taking too time to be a mentor in this program may count for office hours.
Job Shadowing: Your Role
- Quarter based
- One hour per week for 1:1s with your Ambassador
- Develop a meaningful relationship whether it be more personal or professional
